Top Ten Causes of Death

Heart disease is the number one leading cause of death in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2016 data, 635,260 people that died from heart disease. The 2nd leading cause of death was cancer with 598,038. These two leading causes of death represent 44.9% of all the deaths in 2016. 44.9% represents almost half of all of the deaths in the U.S. are from heart disease and cancer. Here are the causes of death in rank order:

1.    Heart disease: 635,260***

2.    Cancer 598,038***

3.    Accidents (unintentional injuries): 161,374

4.    Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 154,596***

5.    Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 142,142***

6.    Alzheimer’s disease: 116,103***

7.    Diabetes: 80,058***

8.    Influenza and pneumonia: 51,537

9.    Kidney Disease: 50,046***

10.    Intentional self-harm (suicide): 44,965

***All of the seven flagged causes of death, evidence shows that there is a strong link to the cause of death and diet or nutrition.
